Full-Day Professional Development Workshop
Like students, teachers become better writers, and better teachers of writing, by writing. My professional development workshop not only gives teachers an opportunity to write in a supportive setting, but it provides them with 15-20 poetry writing activities that they can share with their students the very first day of school and make part of their writing program for the whole year. The five-hour workshop offers new ways to include rhyming poetry and free verse in content-area lessons and help students meet Common Core Literary Standards.
Teachers in the workshop will receive a writer’s notebook and a three-ring binder for workshops notes and reproducible activity sheets. Maine teachers may receive .5 CEU credit from University of Southern Maine for participating in the full workshop. Check the requirements for receiving CEU in your district and state.
Workshop students will have the opportunity to purchase at reduced price two of my professional titles: Teaching Literary Elements Using Poetry (Scholastic) and Reading Poetry in the Middle Grades (Heinemann).
I also offer a two-hour workshop. If either the full workshop or the two-hour workshop interest you please contact me for information.
