very best (almost) friends
I didn't know it at the time, but this anthology was the beginning of a fabulous relationship with Candlewick Press. Small in size, the book is bursting with poems that depict the highs and lows of friendships. It includes the likes of "Friendship" by Walter Dean Myers, "Lonesome" by Myra Cohn Livingston, and "My Stupid Parakeet Named After You" by X.J. Kennedy. I even managed to slip in one of my own poms, "If I could Put a Curse on You." Always a crowd pleaser when I read it in schools.
